Educational Settings & PAT Testing

As PAT Testers we get told by School Officials the rising problem with Teachers and Students bringing in personal electricals into their Educational Setting.

Most schools under a specific Health and Safety policy depending on the nature will not allow any members of staff or students to bring in electricals such as a phone charger or an electric heater unless specific authorisation from a senior member of staff such as a H&S manager/practitioner or Caretaker/Site Manager is issued to the owner of the electrical equipment.

All schools and education settings have legal obligations in place to ensure Health & Safety is maintained in the workplace, this too also involves ensuring all electrical equipment used within the school premises is safe and maintained to prevent danger.

Most Schools in the United Kingdom will very likely NOT allow personal electricals from any 3rd Party such as a staff member or student for use within their grounds unless specific proof of electrical checks such as PAT Testing is carried out, this is due to insurance purposes if in the event a claim of damage to building and/or contents from an electrical fire is made to the insurer.
